The Lord of Misrule Review

Writer: Simon GraemeSimon Graeme

I watched the Lord of Misrule on Hulu last night. Folk horror reminiscent of The Wicker Man, though I kept thinking of Hot Fuzz, but without the comedy.

NO SPOILERS.

It was almost a great movie, but it just kept falling short when it was right on the verge.

There were a couple good creepy bits. Great atmosphere. Nice mystery, almost. A major character dies and I didn't give a shit. I wasn't even like "Oh cool death scene," but I didn't really mind that this person bought it. The ending was almost satisfying but was not earned, made no sense, and was not set up at all. The plot holes aren't huge but there's dozens of them.

The acting was decent. I liked one old lady and a little rotten kid the most.

I'd give it 2 stars, which would be a 1 if not for the atmosphere, consistent sense of dread, acting, and production value. Best part of this movie is the trailer.
